Edinburgh Rooftop Garden Gin
From: Edinburgh Gin
Head Distiller, David Wilkinson and Edinburgh have launched a Distillery Exclusive: Rooftop Garden Gin.
Rooftop is a bold celebration of Edinburgh Gin’s new distillery home and the botanicals flourishing on their rooftop terrace. Available exclusively at the Edinburgh Gin Distillery, this new gin has a true sense of place – and a story in every sip. Visit their distillery shop or bar to try & buy.
There are 16 botanicals in total as a nod to Arch 16 where the distillery is based in East Market Street. Starting with the key ones: a hearty dose of juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, orris root and liquorice root.
The 5 botanicals from the rooftop are all floral or herbal in nature and very aromatic. It has floral notes from lavender and violets, with herbal notes from rosemary, sage and lemon balm, with the latter also providing bright, citrus flavours. These lighter botanicals contrast with the spicier botanicals They have also added; cardamom, cubeb pepper, long pepper and Timur pepper.
Cubeb adds vibrant peppery notes, long pepper and cardamom compliment the floral aromas and Timur pepper gives a tingling sensation in the aftertaste, as well as adding a grapefruit flavour to the gin. To round off, it includes hazelnuts and milk thistle, which give the gin a smoother and more viscous mouthfeel, allowing the other botanicals to linger on the palate for longer.
