While history credits William III, the Prince of Holland, with bringing gin to the English throne – Sipsmith is rewriting the story. Thanks to Master Distiller Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller, who were gifted an original copy of “The Distiller of London” by The Worshipful Company of Distillers, we’ve unlocked a centuries-old secret. Hidden in coded scripture, they uncovered a recipe featuring juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, and orris root—a precursor to modern London Dry Gin. This discovery predates William III’s ascending of the throne by 50 years!
Embracing their tradition of innovation, they have recreated this ancient recipe with a unique approach. They start with a barley based new-make spirit, typically used in whisky, which lends a rich, buttery mouthfeel. The juniper heart remains the star of the show but they elevate the flavour with the addition of ripe raspberries and strawberries. After resting in oak barrels and chill filtering, the result is a gin that’s as complex as it is smooth.
Origin 1639 Gin is a perfect blend of classic juniper, vibrant citrus, and a spicy backbone. With it’s rich berry notes and unique character, this gin is delicious served on the rocks or in a Gin Old Fashioned.

Jared Brown, Sipsmith
“I believe good gin, like good wine, begins with fingers in the soil and ends with the guest experience,” explains Sipsmith Co-Founder and Master Distiller Jared Brown. Despite the phenomenal success of the brand, which famously challenged an antiquated British law preventing gin being made in small batches and won, the bedrock of their story is the belief that flavours Read more
