Rob Dorsett, Master Distiller at Alcohols Ltd’s Langley Distillery, has been presented with the Gin Guild Lifetime Achievement Award at the Guild’s Autumn Installation, in recognition of more than 35 years dedicated to the craft of gin distillation.

The award celebrates not only the span of Rob’s career but also the profound influence he has had on the gin category and the many distillers who have benefitted from his guidance. His reputation is built on precision, meticulous attention to botanicals, and a steadfast belief that distilling should remain true to craft. Known for balancing traditional techniques with the demands of modern production, Rob has shaped the character of countless gins produced at Langley, one of the UK’s most historic gin distilleries.

Among his many achievements, Rob played a pivotal role in the creation and launch of Palmers London Dry, the first gin released under Langley’s own name. The expression demonstrated his instinct for clarity, flavour integrity, and unwavering commitment to quality. Rob’s own approach to enjoying gin—simply topped with sparkling water rather than tonic—reflects his dedication to purity of flavour and the botanicals themselves.

A member of the Gin Guild since 2018, Rob is widely respected across the industry. His contribution has left a lasting mark on the global gin renaissance, influencing the work of peers and new distillers alike.

Rob commented on receiving the award:

“I’m still in shock. It’s a huge honour and a wonderful surprise. I’ve loved every minute of my career, working on incredible gins like Martin Miller’s. As a proud Black Country boy, spending over 20 years at Langley Distillery has been an amazing journey. I’ve been lucky to share ideas with legends like Desmond Payne and Tom Nichol, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved—over 350 recipes—and very grateful to the Guild for this recognition. It’s been a true pleasure.”

His certificate reads:

In recognition of an exceptional career spending nearly 35 years in distilling, and for his distinguished contribution to the global gin renaissance. As Master Distiller at Alcohols Ltd, his mastery and dedication have shaped billions of bottles and elevated the craft, embodying the true spirit of excellence in gin, leaving a lasting legacy from a champion of “all things gin.”

The Gin Guild is honoured to celebrate Rob Dorsett’s remarkable career and his enduring contribution to gin, recognising him as a master of the craft and a true ambassador of the spirit.
