Professor Alex Speers (Heriot Watt)
Alex Speers is the Professor and Director of the International Centre of Brewing and Distilling (ICBD) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Born in Creston, BC, Canada he gained a B.Sc. (Agr.), M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University British Columbia in Vancouver. In the past, Alex has been employed by both Molson and Labatt’s breweries. His research interests include various topics related to the brewing and distilling.

Alex belongs to several professional societies and editorial boards including the JIB. He has published or presented more than 200 papers, is a Fellow of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling and a Chartered Scientist.

The International Centre of Brewing and Distilling is Celebrating its 25th year of teaching, researching and assisting the malting, brewing, distilling and related industries.
