Gin Guild member Alpine Distilling is expanding its American operations with the opening of a new distillery in a historic railway roundhouse in Evanston, Wyoming, marking the largest expansion in the company’s ten-year history.

Founded in Park City, Utah, in 2016 by Rob and Sara Sergent, the independent American distillery has established an international reputation for its innovative spirits, botanical distillation and immersive gin-making experiences.

The new production and manufacturing facility occupies Evanston’s historic Roundhouse, a landmark railway complex built by Union Pacific in 1912. Recognised by the City of Evanston as the last remaining intact roundhouse on the former Union Pacific mainline between Omaha and Sacramento, the site has undergone decades of preservation and restoration. Alpine Distilling becomes the first operational business to occupy the space in 50 years, bringing distilling and manufacturing back into the historic buildings.

The expansion will increase production of Alpine’s grain-to-glass whiskeys, internationally recognised gins and botanical spirits, while creating opportunities for public education, retail and visitor experiences.

Sara Sergent, CEO and Master Botanical Distiller, said: “We don’t want Alpine Distilling to simply occupy the Roundhouse. We want to become part of its story.

The people of Evanston preserved an extraordinary piece of American history. Our responsibility is to honour what came before, put ‘making’ back inside these walls, and open the process so people can experience what happens here.”

A decade of innovation in gin

Since its establishment in 2016, Alpine Distilling has brought together traditional whiskey-making techniques and an innovative approach to botanical distillation. Under Sara Sergent’s leadership, the distillery has developed a distinctive approach to extracting botanical flavours, exploring the relationship between proof, pressure and speed.

Its Alpine Elevated Gin has received international recognition, including being named Gin of the Year in London. Sara Sergent is a Warden Rectifier of the Gin Guild and, in 2026, was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service.

Alpine has also developed a bespoke gin-making experience at its Park City premises, inviting visitors to explore botanicals and create their own gin expressions. Its commitment to the local community and sustainability was further recognised in 2026, when it became the first business to achieve Gold-level recognition through Park City’s Green Business Program.

Park City remains at the heart of the experience

While Evanston will serve as the expanded production hub, Alpine’s Social Aid & Pleasure Club on Park City’s Historic Main Street will continue to provide the public-facing home for the brand.

Combining a cocktail lounge, tasting room, botanical laboratory and community gathering space, the venue has welcomed more than 40 non-profit organisations and community groups. The distillery plans to expand its hospitality, custom gin-making, botanical education and community activities alongside the new production facility.

The two locations reflect complementary aspects of Alpine’s identity: Park City as a place for hospitality, discovery and community, and Evanston as a working distillery rooted in craftsmanship, engineering and production.

Rob Sergent, founder of Alpine Distilling, said:

“The Roundhouse was built for people who made and repaired things with their hands. Distilling comes from that same tradition. We have the opportunity to respect this building’s history while giving it another working chapter.”

As Alpine Distilling celebrates its tenth anniversary, the expansion represents a significant milestone for the Gin Guild member, bringing together American industrial heritage, contemporary distilling innovation and a continued commitment to sharing the craft of spirits production with the public.
