Founded in 2022 by the Mordant family, Quattro Gatti is a terroir-driven gin born in the heart of Umbria, the landlocked region between Florence and Rome known as Italy’s “Green Heart.”
The story began when Angus and Simon attended a gin-making course in England and returned to their Umbrian property inspired to create something distinctly Italian.
They installed a 100-litre German copper CARL still, affectionately nicknamed “Carlino” after a former gardener, and began experimenting with botanicals gathered from the land and local markets.
Their guiding philosophy was simple: approach gin-making as a chef approaches a dish, with the things that grow together tasting good together.
At the heart of both expressions is Italian juniper, abundant in Umbria and widely regarded as the finest in the world.
The family deliberately keeps botanical selections focused, using fewer than ten ingredients per gin to allow each one room to breathe.
The range currently comprises two expressions. Classico is a refined, versatile dry gin built around orange and orris root rather than the lemon typical of London Dry styles.
Olive Grove is the more distinctive of the two, a herbaceous and savoury gin made with olive oil in the still, alongside artichoke, lemon, and thyme, designed as the ultimate martini gin while remaining rooted in the Italian table.
Both expressions have performed strongly on the competition circuit, and in 2026, Quattro Gatti was named the Official Gin of the 61st Venice Biennale — the first spirit brand ever to hold that honour alongside Bulgari, illy, and American Express.
The gin is currently available in Australia, Italy and the United States, with further expansion planned.
