Beefeater Distillery

The largest London distillery is Beefeater Gin. This iconic London gin has been produced in London since 1876.

It is one of the few major spirits to have stayed in London over the years, calling Kennington home since 1958.

Beefeater’s Kennington distillery uses multiple copper pot stills including James Burrough’s original ‘Still No. 12’, a 268-litre 19th-century copper pot still preserved from the old Cale Street/Chelsea equipment and used for small-batch Beefeater Burrough’s Reserve.

The modern Kennington installation was engineered to replicate aspects of the old Chelsea set and includes both small historic stills (eg. No.12) and much larger copper pot stills: three at 3,200-litre capacity and four at approximately 6,400 litres. These stills were commissioned when production moved in 1958 and since then, with the most recent added in 2023.

2025 Update
From October 2025, they will no longer be running guided tours at the Beefeater Distillery and new bookings are no longer being accepted. The Distillery’s shop, where guests can explore our self-guided gin exhibition, enjoy tasting boards and cocktails and purchase Beefeater gins and gifts, will remain open until the end of December 2025*.

As of January 1, 2026, the Beefeater Distillery will no longer be open to the public. This change will not affect our operations and the “world’s most awarded gin” will continue to be produced here on site, just as it has since 1958.
