The Gin Guild is delighted to celebrate the creation of a new cocktail honouring one of Britain’s most iconic monarchs, showcasing the very best of British craftsmanship and ingredients.

Named Elizabeth, the cocktail has been created to mark what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s official 100th birthday and combines four quintessentially British ingredients – London Dry Gin, whisky, raspberry liqueur and English sparkling wine – in a sparkling tribute to a remarkable reign.

The Elizabeth cocktail created by a Gin Guild member to celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of the late Queen of EnglandCreated by Guild member, food writer and author Ameer Kotecha, whose previous work includes Queen Elizabeth II’s Official Platinum Jubilee Cookbook, the recipe draws inspiration from classic cocktails while creating something entirely new.

The combination of London Dry Gin, fresh lemon juice and sparkling wine pays homage to the French 75, while the addition of British whisky adds depth and complexity. Raspberry liqueur contributes both fruitiness and a delicate pink hue, reminiscent of one of the late Queen’s favourite serves – Gin and Dubonnet.

The cocktail was released on the Sovereign’s official birthday, a date which in 2026 would also have marked Queen Elizabeth II’s official centenary celebrations. By exclusively using British ingredients, the recipe also shines a spotlight on the quality and diversity of the nation’s drinks producers, from world-renowned London Dry Gin to the rapidly growing English and Welsh sparkling wine industry.

Pal Gleed, Director General of The Gin Guild, welcomed the initiative:

“Gin has long been a key part of Britain’s social and cultural fabric. The Elizabeth is a celebration of a remarkable monarch and the craftsmanship and quality that defines British distilling.”

The new creation joins a long tradition of cocktails named after famous figures, sitting alongside classics such as the Kir Royale, Shirley Temple and Hemingway Daiquiri. Its creators hope that Elizabeth will become a modern classic in its own right – a celebratory serve that honours both British heritage and the exceptional quality of British spirits.

The Elizabeth Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 12.5ml London Dry Gin
  • 12.5ml whisky
  • 12.5ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 12.5ml raspberry liqueur
  • 6ml sugar syrup
  • 100ml English sparkling wine

Method

Shake all ingredients except the sparkling wine with plenty of ice. Strain into a chilled Champagne flute or coupé glass, top with English sparkling wine, stir briefly and serve immediately.

Ameer commented:

“It’s only right that a new British cocktail should feature one of our most famed national products, London-dry gin. And of course Queen Elizabeth was herself a fan, being well-known for her love of martinis and gin and Dubonnet.

The combination of a juniper-heavy gin with whisky is an unusual pairing but works.

Together with raspberry liqueur and English sparkling wine it creates a rounded cocktail that represents the best of British produce and that will hopefully in time become a much-loved classic to remember our wonderful late Queen.”

Whether raised in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s extraordinary legacy or simply enjoyed as a showcase of British distilling and winemaking, The Elizabeth is a fitting toast to tradition, craftsmanship and innovation – values that sit at the heart of the Gin Guild and its members.
