The Coastal Distilling Co

Based in Torquay, Devon, The Coastal Distilling Co is an independent distillery founded by Laurance Traverso, combining a passion for gin with a wider ambition to create innovative spirits and work with emerging and established brands.

The business began in 2020, following Laurance’s earlier experience as co-founder and Managing Director of Distinctly Drinks, where he developed a number of gins and gained experience across brand development, marketing and consumer engagement. Today, The Coastal Distilling Co produces its own Torquay Coastal Gin, alongside a growing range of spirits and gins developed for third-party brands.

The distillery operates two pot stills – a 150-litre still and a 100-litre still with an additional column – giving the team flexibility to develop different styles of spirit and work on both its own products and contract distilling projects. Its third-party portfolio includes gins for brands such as Wollens, Cockington, JackSpeak, Junjaow, HMS Richmond and Distinctly.

Gin remains central to the company’s work, but the team has expanded its capabilities into rum, tequila and liqueurs, reflecting a broader interest in distillation, innovation and the development of new products. The business has also built experience in supporting brands through tastings, marketing campaigns and development activity across the UK and Europe, with plans to begin exporting to Japan.

Alongside The Coastal Distilling Co, Laurance has established Distilled Sound, a consultancy supporting businesses with the development of spirits brands and distilleries, including the licensing and regulatory requirements associated with establishing a new operation.
