MarGin Gin is an artisanal London Dry Gin founded by entrepreneur and art patron Rachel Verghis. Inspired by the British ‘white fiver’ — the first five-pound note issued by the Bank of England in 1793 — MarGin Gin embodies the elegance and simplicity of this historic currency.

Crafted in small batches, MarGin Gin features a meticulously balanced infusion of nine botanicals, including juniper berries, pink hyssop, and cotton lavender. This combination results in a gin with an elegant, cool, and crisp flavour, complemented by a dry yet smooth mouthfeel.

Rachel Verghis, with a background in banking and a deep involvement in the art world, aimed to create a premium spirit that could be savoured neat, akin to a fine single malt or Cognac. Her vision was to produce a gin that reflects both quality craftsmanship and a rich historical narrative.

Since its launch, MarGin Gin has been featured at various art events and is available at select venues, including Chiltern Firehouse, KOKO Camden, and Hedonism Wines. Its distinctive character and homage to British heritage have garnered appreciation among gin enthusiasts and art aficionados alike.

    About the Founder

Born in Malaysia, Rachel moved to Sydney at a very early age. Her deep love for contemporary art began when she took a short sabbatical from her finance career to intern for Gene Sherman at the Sherman Galleries.

There her first artwork, a photograph from Vanilla Netto was acquired. 25 years have since passed and Rachel’s deep love for the form has endured. A long association with Iceland also features and an endeavour to complete a private museum for the artist Louisa Mattisdottir is a continuing project.

A passionate art collector, supporter and entrepreneur, she has held various board and committee positions namely at the Tate APAC, Biennale of Sydney, the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, the Sherman Centre for Culture and Ideas, Australia at Venice and Opera Australia.

A current member of the Hayward Gallery Commissioning Committee, the British Council UK Circle, the Tate International Council and Patron of the Serpentine Gallery, Rachel was also the founder of goo.ey, which saw artist, designers and activists create limited edition phone cases, VerghisArt, a platform supporting emerging artists primarily form the Asia Pacific region and now MarGin, a gin inspired by an olfactory sculpture!
