Description

Gin Guild members asked for more support on how to tackle some of the biggest sustainability challenges facing the industry today. This guide was commissioned to provide a practical toolkit that was specifically ‘gin-centric’, focusing in on the top issues for gin brands and partners.

The guide is intentionally flexible, acknowledging that members may be at different levels of sustainability maturity, scale, and impact. In the pages that follow, you will find helpful tips, resources, and examples of best practice from other members. So, whether you are just starting out on your sustainability journey, or you’re looking to align with the latest industry thinking, this guide is for you.

How to Use This Guide

This guide was developed with the support of the Gin Guild Members’ Sustainability Working Group. It addresses ‘material’ issues for the gin industry, which means it is focused on areas where members can make a real impact and/or which represent a potential risk to the gin industry if not addressed.

This manual gives a practical guide to Gin Guild members, large and small, acting on sustainability issues.

Section 1 of the guide covers key environmental topics, especially aimed at gin distillers.

Section 2 covers social and governance issues, and how to embed sustainability into your business operations.

Finally, an appendix provides further links and resources and a glossary of terms.

For each topic we include:

  1. A description of why the topic is important and relevant to the gin sector.
  2. A checklist of practical actions for you to work through. For each action, we’ve split these into: Starting out – simple actions for anyone starting out on their sustainability journey, or those with limited resources.
    • Further along – suggestions for more advanced measures – especially relevant to larger organisations with big influence, or those that aspire to be environmental leaders.
    • Case studies that represent best practice or innovation for the material topic.
  3.
