Pernod Ricard has acquired full ownership of Inverroche, a South African luxury gin brand. This move marks Pernod Ricard’s first wholly owned African spirit brand, underscoring the company’s commitment to the continent’s burgeoning premium spirits market.

Inverroche, founded over a decade ago by Lorna Scott in Stilbaai, Western Cape, is renowned for pioneering the use of indigenous fynbos botanicals in its gins. These unique botanicals, native to the region, impart distinctive flavours to the gin, setting Inverroche apart in the global market. The brand’s portfolio includes Gin Classic, Gin Verdant, and Gin Amber, among other limited editions.

Lorna Scott will continue her involvement with the brand, ensuring that her passion and deep knowledge remain integral to Inverroche’s future within Pernod Ricard. The acquisition is also significant for the local community, as Inverroche is one of the largest employers in the Stilbaai and Riversdale areas.

Notably, 70% of its employees are women, many of whom are heads of single-parent households. During peak periods, the company creates additional temporary jobs to manage increased visitor numbers at the Inverroche Brand Home in Stilbaai.

Sola Oke, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Africa, stated:

“Africa is a market with great potential for Pernod Ricard. Our investment in Inverroche demonstrates the commitment of our group to Africa, and our belief in the continent’s potential as a significant white space opportunity in the world for the premium spirits and champagne segment.”

This acquisition aligns with Pernod Ricard’s strategy to expand its presence in sub-Saharan Africa, where the demand for premium spirits, particularly gin, is experiencing rapid growth. By integrating Inverroche into its extensive distribution network, Pernod Ricard aims to elevate the brand’s global presence while maintaining its authentic African heritage.

The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
