The Wine & Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has issued a call to independent retailers to join a campaign to stop duty increases.

They are urging independent retailers to gather together this Wednesday 7th February and make their voices heard.

The event, which will take place at the WSTA’s offices near London Bridge, as well as on Zoom, will see members and non-members gather to voice concerns, record vox pops and receive information about writing to MPs.

“We need government to listen and to do that, we need to act now, to join forces as an industry and lobby government for a cut in duty at the Spring Budget”.

According to the trade association, members are reporting decreases in sales volumes following the introduction of new rates.

“And it’s not just the industry that’s suffering, excise duty receipts to the Exchequer are down too,” the group added.

The WSTA team and WSTA member Daniel Lambert will be in attendance at the event, which follows on from a Crush the Red Tape campaign with Drinks Retailing.

Join this Wednesday February 7 at 1pm. Either via Zoom or at WSTA, Unit 9 Baden Place, Crosby Row, London, SE1 1YW.
