The profile of the Guild is growing. Various departments of HM Government have noted our existence and have used us as an access channel for the benefit of members.

We were approached prior to World Gin Day by DEFRA and had extensive discussions with them as to the growth of the category and gin’s importance as an export. The DEFRA press release had wide coverage and mentioned the Guild.

In another Government approach, our help was requested for the provision of gin to the House of Commons. A number of members tendered for the supply, which was eventually won by Sipsmith.

The Guild was also approached by UKTI to provide an urgent introduction, at very short notice, to a number of established high-capacity gin brands.

The UKTI had been approached by an online B2B foodservice provider from China, based out of Hong Kong, who are undergoing a merger that will make them one of the largest suppliers to hotels and restaurants in China.

UKTI advised that they had conducted preliminary due diligence on the enquirer, were speaking to their team in Hong Kong via the UK embassy, and were keen to source a selection of UK Gins for urgent presentation.

We swiftly contacted a selection of member brands and were able to go back to UKTI with contact names and a little background information. We hope that the interest will go further, and UKTI will facilitate direct introductions to the enquirer.
