It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers Terry Barr, who passed away on Sunday 20th April following a short illness.

Terry served as Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers in 2011-12 and was a much valued and respected Liveryman. He contributed extensively to the life of the Company, particularly through his long-standing involvement with the Wine and Spirit Committee.

Terry also holds a significant place in the history of the Gin Guild, having been Master at the time of its foundation. He presided over the installation of our first Grand Rectifier, Christopher Hayman.

Reflecting on the occasion, Christopher said:

“I remember that first installation ceremony very well – we welcomed our first 12 members, including some real heavyweights from the gin trade. Terry was always a strong supporter of the Guild from the very beginning.”

Christopher continued: “It reminds me of the strong connection between the Worshipful Company of Distillers and the Gin Guild and we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Terry’s wife Jenny and to their family.”

Jenny has asked that any messages be sent in writing, please email the Director General for further details. Further information will be shared when available.

The Funeral for Terry will be held on Tuesday 3rd June 2025 at Clandon Woods Nature Reserve burial ground, Epsom Road, GU4 7FN (Parking is available on site) (Note Correct Postcode)
