Botanicals Supply level update

Stefano will discuss the general state of the botanicals market and look at the challenges of sustainability in botanicals supply, as well as the impact of climate change on botanicals crops and examine the impact of global conflicts in Ukraine, Palestine and elsewhere in the world and their impact on the supply of botanicals and how to mitigate supply shortages.

He will then discuss in depth the supply of Juniper for gin makers and the state of the market, how juniper impacts on flavour and how to manage the supply chain.

About Stefano

Stefano is Managing Director of Webb James SRL, a botanicals supplier founded in 1793 by  John Webb, an English merchant from Bristol who moved his business to Livorno in Italy to reap the advantages offered by the free port and specialised in exporting spices and botanicals for the gin and liquor producers to the United States and United Kingdom. When John Webb died in 1829 his daughter Anne inherited the company, and installed as manager a certain Mr. John James, who would soon become her husband.

The company, since then known as Webb James, passed from father to son down the generations. It went from John to his son Enrico to his son Giovanni and finally to his son Enrico (born 1889). Between the two World Wars, the latter decided to leave Livorno, and this was when Oscar Trumpy, who had managed Webb James since 1931, bought the company in 1941.
