Distillery Process Safety & Compliance – Why?
In this discussion, Ed will talk about the journey Chase has been on and the key focus areas for a distillery and a production facility to focus on when starting out on its process safety and compliance journey. He will talk about what steps Chase has taken to ensure it complies with regulations and legislation, the challenges and the successes of the journey and where they are now.
He will look at where to start their work towards improved compliance and process safety, what tools are available to support and how the industry can do better to inform and ensure that safety is a number one priority for all distillers no matter whether a small family owned start-up or a global brand.
Ed has 7 years distillery operations experience, having been with Chase Distillery since 2017 during its privately owned days, through a period of fantastic growth to its acquisition by Diageo. During a varied career, he has been responsible for many areas across operations and a key focus of his work as distillery manager has been the implementation and continuous improvement of the sites process safety compliance with phased CAPEX (capital expenditure) works.
During this process which started in 2019, the team at Chase have been focusing on taking the site from its base level through 3 phases of process safety works to its current position as part of Diageo, this has been a steep learning curve that will be extremely relevant for many distilleries out there at some point in their journey.
