The Gin Guild welcomed 24 new members at an exclusive ceremony held at The Savile Club in London, bringing the total number to 174.

At a ceremony on 26 May, the new members were ‘installed’ by The Gin Guild’s Grand Rectifier Martin Riley. They each swore an oath, while symbolically holding juniper berries, to protect the spirit’s quality and production around the world.

Martin said:

The aim of The Gin Guild is to bring together gin distillers and industry leaders and together we promote and encourage a commitment to excellence in gin distillation and industry custodianship of the spirit.

“Over the past five years we have welcomed a wide range of members to The Gin Guild and we offer a very warm welcome to those who joined us recently.”

At The Gin Guild’s recent Ginposium event on 12 May Arthur Nägele, an independent trainer and adviser for alcoholic beverages, based in Vienna, also took his oath and joined the Guild as Rectifier.

Membership is open to a range of gin industry players with various classes from Founder Wardens who are appointed by the four founder companies,Bacardi,DiageoWilliam Grant & Sons and Chivas Brothers; Warden Rectifiers, who include distillers, producers and brand owners, and Rectifiers, who have roles in the production, distribution and marketing of gin, including leading bartenders, journalists, marketing experts and educators.

The 24 new members in the May intake are:

Jon Chadwick, established Durham Distillery in 2013, the first legal distillery in Durham since the reign of Henry VIII.

Simon Ford, founded The 86 Co and Fords Gin in 2012, a growing and trendy brand especially in the USA.

Karl Mason is the Brand Owner of Mason’s Yorkshire Gin, the first modern day distillery in Yorkshire, putting the county on the drinks’ map (and on its’ drinks mats).

Alexandra Robson is Co-founder of West End Drinks, which launched the King of Soho London dry gin in October 2013.

Geordie Willis is Creative Director at Berry Bros & Rudd, who own No.3 London Dry Gin.

James Goggin, Portfolio Ambassador for Maverick Drinks, the UK distributer for craft brands such as St George. James helped Maverick win the coveted ‘IWSC Spirits Distributor of the Year’ award in 2014.

Howard Raymond, Co-founder and Director of West End Drinks. The King of Soho gin was named as a tribute to his father, Paul Raymond and its bohemian bottle style represents both the past and present of Soho life.

Kathy Mason is the Co-brand Owner of Mason’s Yorkshire Gin, a very successful gin with a distillery in Bedale.

Luke Tegner is the Brands Director at Berry Bros & Rudd and has been involved in the development of their No.3 gin from its conception to launch in 2010.

Jessica Tomlinson is the Chief Distiller, Durham Distillery, and at 27 is one of the youngest senior distillers in the UK.

Daniel Warner is the Director of Marketing and Sales for Fords Gin in Europe.
